Sizing Tips

About Sizing Leather Race Suits

Asphalt Pilots race suits runs very true to size. I've personally compared the suit to an Alpinestars and I find the fit to be identical. If you're a biker and already own a race suit, you should have no problems ordering. If you are debating whether one size will fit better than another, please contact us with your weight and height. We will compare your size to other orders and offer guidance.

Never Wore a Race Suit Before? Is this your first race suit? The following information is intended as advice and insight to ordering your first race suit. Depending upon your height, weight, comfort preferences, etc, your needs may vary. In addition, if you're not the average body type, you may need a bigger suit to compensate for your thin frame, but tall height. This may also be the only option for those who have added a few pounds around the middle as well. This is a compromise. that's not any different than going to your local dealer and buying a race suit off the rack.

In short, the best suit is the one that fits snugly, but not uncomfortably. You should be able to crouch in a rider position and not feel like the suit is overly compressing you, but it should be snug because it will give and stretch up to half a size larger. I really hate to send you into a dealership to try a race suit or jacket and then come back and order here, but that may be your only option to be sure you're ordering right. I just hate to do that to a dealer. If you have a friend with a true motorcycle jacket or suit, talk to them or ask if you can try on their gear.

You should try a reputable brand such as Alpinestars (preferred) who have spent years developing proper fit and design. You cannot make this decision based on a jacket purchased at the fashion store. This is very technically sophisticated gear with specific rider features for the sport biker. You have to be making your size decision based on this line of technically qualified gear. If you're not sure, you can always email me and I'll do my best to offer help so we get the size right the first time around.

Are jackets a good indicator for suit sizes? Yes. However, you must try on a real motorcycle jacket (Alpinestars, Joe Rocket). If a size 44 Alpinestars jacket fits good, and you're of average rider weight/height (maybe 6'1", 190 pounds) than you're good to order.

Because the race suit is 16 pounds of leather and armor, the first time owner of a race suit can feel like it's "all wrong." It may feel bulky, and in truth, it is. It may almost feel constraining, limiting your movements. But that's the beauty of it and that's what it does. It's your protection when you ride. Experienced riders are used to this and like them, you'll easily find your stride, comfort, and mobility after use. Some guys who know what to expect are instantly in style and wear races suits like they're a second skin. Give the suit a chance on your body. The suit is technically designed to be used in the rider position, not as club wear; even though I know you'll never wanna live without one on!
